Bloggers: Rock the Red Pump For National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

The Red Pump Project

I’ve signed up to Rock the Red Pump and show my support of increasing awareness of how women and girls in the United States are affected by HIV/AIDS and to salute the courage and strength they face each day in dealing with this disease – and I think you should, too.

You can follow them on Twitter at @RedPumpProj and support them on Facebook on The Red Pump Project Facebook Page.

What is The Red Pump Project?

It is a project that was started by Luvvie Ajayi and Karyn Watkins in March 2009 to help raise awareness about the impact of HIV/AIDS on women and girls as part of a nationwide initiative.

They chose to use the Red Pump as a symbol of empowerment and as an embodiment of the strength and courage of women and girls who are affected by HIV/AIDS.

National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is March 10th every year and as a part of that effort, Rock the Red Pump was launched as a way for bloggers to show their support for women and girls who are affected by HIV/AIDS and represents the strength and courage of these women and girls.

In the first year, 2009, their initial campaign goal was to get 100 blogs to sign up. They had 125. Last year the number of blogs doubled to 250. This year the goal is to double that to 500 in 50 days and they exceeded that by getting 650 in 25 days.

Email For The Generations Presentation At #SMMSF

Nielsen and comScore tell us from their stats that advertisers look at all of us through a generational lens.

Coming from more than a decade in the television industry – both on-air and digital – I have long been taught to use information we know about what appeals to members of each of the four living generation in the US.

I have brought those learnings to my work as a consultant, despite a lack of dialogue about this approach in social media and general marketing circles.

That changed when I presented Email For The Generations: Social tactics to trigger responses from the Greatest Generation, Baby Boomers, Generation X and Millennials effectively.

Take a look at my presentation, available for download on Slideshare, and let me know what you think!

Every Vote Counts: Let The Voice Of The SMB be Heard!

Man WhiteboardingThe majority of US-based businesses are small or medium-sized. In addition to the size of the SMB market, both the economy and incentives from the federal government to encourage individuals to create business has positioned the SMB market as perhaps the most important sector of growth we’ve seen in more than a decade.

Large enterprises know this and are keen to reach entrepreneurs and executive at SMBs to help them grow, using their products and services as they scale into larger businesses.

This gave myself and Karen O’Brien, a partner a Crimson Consulting, the idea to being together a panel to educate those at South by Southwest (SXSW) and Enterprise 2.0 conferences to talk about how large enterprises can reach the SMB market and the promise it holds for them in doing so, as well as educating SMBs about what incentives these companies are providing to engage with the SMB customer. At SXSW, the panel will include representatives from Microsoft, Cisco and Yelp.

But these panels will not happen unless you vote to bring them to life… and the competition is fierce. That’s where your help comes in…

Please take a moment to vote for the panel on the SXSW panelpicker and leave a comment on what you think the promise the panel holds, what you would like to get out of it if you were to attend the session or anything else you think is important for us to know.

The panelists could be different, but the message very similar at Enterprise 2.0 – you can cast your vote here. Again, would love to hear your comments!

UPDATED: Teaching Understanding Google Analytics

mediabistro

I am thrilled to be teaching Understanding Google Analytics, an online course, for mediabistro.

The first classes begin July 29th. That course is ending soon, but you can now sign up for the next session that will begin on Thursday evenings beginning October 7th. Sign up here.

Here’s the course description:

Business owners used to only be concerned with the number of hits to their website. Now businesses, bloggers, and online marketers need to know more than just how many people are coming to their site. They need data about their site’s performance, Internet marketing investments, lead or sales conversions, visitor behavior, and user interaction. Fortunately, the advancement of web technologies has made this comprehensive collection of data and analysis possible.

Live Podcast: Featured Guest Marissa Louie, CEO of HeroEx

Marissa Louie

Marissa Louie

I had the good fortune to meet Marissa Louie of HeroEx as part of the process of becoming a panelist at next Thursday’s Social Media Marketing Conference in San Francisco (#SMMSF) and quickly came to like her smart, entrepreneurial spirit.

If you don’t already know about HeroEx.com, check it out. It’s in alpha, but delivers almost any item under 25 pounds in 1 hour or less in San Francisco. For those of us who remember (and relished!) the Kozmo.com days, you have to check it out.
In addition to her current venture, Marissa previously founded AD-Village, an ad network optimizer and aggregator. I’ll ask her about all that, as well as Her expertise is in online marketing, sales, supply chain management and logistics, and technology systems.
One ways he is savvy is in media coverage – Marissa will be in the August issue of SHAPE Magazine and has been featured on ABC, CBS, Forbes, BusinessWeek, TechCrunch, The Next Web, Bub.blicio.us, GQ Korea, and more.
