Live Podcast: Featured Guest Ryan Tate, Editor at Valleywag

Ryan Tate

Ryan Tate

Ryan Tate and I have been friends for quite some time. The kind of friends that many a journalist / writer shares… as we flit from job to job, we keep our friends – like sources – and keep in touch through our networks of friends in common that we work with at our current jobs.

All that to say I am a big Ryan Tate fan. Now that he’s at Valleywag, we just had to get together, if even publicly, on The A-List. Listen to us banter here:

Live Podcast: Featured Guest Kara Swisher, AllThingsD

Kara Swisher

Kara Swisher

Funny coincidences happen all the time, and it just so happens that one of them reminded me that Kara Swisher needed to be on The A-List.

I was watching CNN or BBC World News from my hotel room in Paris after the first day of the LeWeb conference. Lo and behold, I heard for the first time that AOL and Time Warner had split – big news in the Internet world. It was the first I’d heard of it after a full day at an Internet conference, so I couldn’t wait to get the details.

They told the basic story, then went to the prominent expert on the topic of the merger and uncomfortable pairing, authoring two books on the topic.

That expert? Kara Swisher.

As you probably know, Kara Swisher is Co-Executive Editor of AllThingsD and has followed the space for the better part of her distinguished career. Listen to the archive:

That’s a Wrap!: LeWeb 2009

This week we’re wrapping up the LeWeb conference, held December 9th and 10th in Paris, France.

It might have been a bit dreary and wet, but when it’s Paris, who can complain?

You might be asking yourself, ‘why this big deal around LeWeb?’ Well, it’s a huge deal, actually. When you consider the Internet is something almost all of us have in common, I feel it’s important to reach as many key influencers outside the US as in it. To see what trends the market is responding to and the approach companies in Europe and elsewhere are taking to meet coming needs.

LeWeb is the largest conference of its kind – more than 2,000 people from across the globe came in to attend – and even one queen – Queen Raina of Jordan with her 1GOAL initative. But we’ll get to that in a bit.
