Live Podcast: LeWeb 2010 Conference Preview With Loic and Geraldine Le Meur

LeWeb’10 takes place in Paris December 8th and 9th 2010 at Les Docks.

With more than 2,400 Participants from 54 countries, it’s the number one European event about the Internet.

As you probably know, I covered the conference for BlogTalkRadio using Cinch last year and the information and interviews I gathered changed my world view in a positive way the whole year through!

I am excited to hear what’s in store for when I speak with the conference’s Founders and organizer, Loic and Geraldine Le Meur! Remember that The A-List gives you access to the world’s top influencers.

We discuss global entrepreneurship, what the conference organizers hope to do – and that nagging question about the representation of women at LeWeb. Don’t miss the archive:

Live Podcast: Featured Guest Marissa Louie, CEO of HeroEx

Marissa Louie

Marissa Louie

I had the good fortune to meet Marissa Louie of HeroEx as part of the process of becoming a panelist at next Thursday’s Social Media Marketing Conference in San Francisco (#SMMSF) and quickly came to like her smart, entrepreneurial spirit.

If you don’t already know about HeroEx.com, check it out. It’s in alpha, but delivers almost any item under 25 pounds in 1 hour or less in San Francisco. For those of us who remember (and relished!) the Kozmo.com days, you have to check it out.
In addition to her current venture, Marissa previously founded AD-Village, an ad network optimizer and aggregator. I’ll ask her about all that, as well as Her expertise is in online marketing, sales, supply chain management and logistics, and technology systems.
One ways he is savvy is in media coverage – Marissa will be in the August issue of SHAPE Magazine and has been featured on ABC, CBS, Forbes, BusinessWeek, TechCrunch, The Next Web, Bub.blicio.us, GQ Korea, and more.

Live Webinar: Socially Enterprising

Internet EvolutionI presented a webinar today for Internet Evolution, sponsored by IBM, that just about every business looking to use social media strategically can benefit from.

Overview:
Enterprises have moved beyond Sharepoints and intranets; this Webcast takes a closer look at the social-networking tools that enterprises are using (Facebook, Twitter, and wikis, to name a few) to empower employees, disseminate information, and keep tabs on customer requirements and feedback. We look at how these new tools foster collaboration and create new ways to share enterprise data, allowing end users to unlock value and insights that were previously inaccessible.

Live Podcast: Featured Guest Justin Kan, Justin.tv

Justin Kan

Justin Kan

I talk to Justin. Yes, that Justin, from the eponymous Justin.tv who, according to his bio, “comes up with product ideas, keeps the tech team in line, writes specs, does technical hiring, installs servers, buys hardware, writes user features, and tries hard to get out of the office on his motorcycle once in a while.”

I find out what it all means in real terms (does he have time to sleep? Eat?) and where his platform is headed.

Global Ignite Week Streaming Live

Global Ignite WeekI have the honor and pleasure to be speaking at the first-ever Global Ignite Week.

If you’ve never been to an Ignite, you must. Each presenter has 5 minutes and 20 slides to get a point across. Because of the compressed nature of the talks, you never really know what to expect, which is the best part about it, really.

Usually local events, such as the launch of Bay Area Ignite back in December 2009, this is part of Ignites happening all over the world.

There are almost 40 Ignites scheduled from March 1st through the 4th and you’ll be able to watch them streaming online every day.

So far, Global Ignite Week is represented on 4 continents and 10 countries. Our goal is to have participation from all 7 continents (Nairobi is looking good, and we’re working on Antarctica). More on this from Ignite founder, Brady Forrest.

Alan Levy, The Top Talker I Know

Alan Levy, Founder and Owner of BlogTalkRadio and Cinch on the cover of Talkers Magazine

Alan Levy, Founder and Owner of BlogTalkRadio and Cinch on the cover of Talkers Magazine

When I started in TV news, I was always told I had “the voice” for radio. I always took that as a not-so-subtle hint that I didn’t have the looks for on-air work, but TV-people – being as direct as they can be – were always  clear to clarify that I was lucky to have options. Being on air using my voice alone meant I could age without worry – or looking like a TV news version of Jocelyn Wildenstein.

But I digress.

I have a fabulous radio show these days thanks to the Internet and my favorite broadcast platform, BlogTalkRadio and it’s sister / brother outlet, Cinch.

Both are the genius of Alan Levy, who uses both platforms to broadcast himself. The March 2010 issue of Talkers Magazine tells you the story of BTR and it’s founder. It’s a good read whether you like innovators and entrepreneurs – or aspire to be one. It’s a thoughtful look. You can download the PDF and take a read right here.

I highly recommend it.

And they say video killed the radio star. Ha!

In that time, she’s also written a new book, Open Leadership: How Social Technology Can Transform the Way You Lead, out May 10th and remained a popular and powerful figure in Web 2.0 business strategy.

And she’s a lovely person, too!

We touch on many of these topics and more on her appearance on The A-List podcast. Listen to the archive:

Everybody’s Doing It*, So Why Don’t We? (*it = social media)

I’m exciting to be moderating a great panel on Social Media and business Tuesday, February 16th from 6-9 PM. And I’m calling for your questions now (tweet in to @jennifered)!

The question?: To “go social” or not? And should we still be asking that question?

With San Francisco and Silicon Valley leading the world in web innovation and many considering our area the epicenter of all things social media, why are Bay Area companies still so reluctant – as much as those in the Midwest – to engage in the social web? And what about the original internet success story: the porn industry? It’s not thriving as much as you may think. So are companies that are reluctant to ‘go social’ making the right decision?

We’ve assembled a clever and varied panel for a provocative discussion from several different perspectives: big business, non-profits, small to medium size business, and a very specific ‘alternative’ industry.

[Please get your tickets now – there is limited seating and this event will sell out!]

Live Podcast: Featured Guest Zoë Keating, Cellist and Composer

This week we have a special treat on The A-List, a wonderful, one-woman powerhouse of a musician, Zoë Keating.

Recently named one of the Hot 20 people of 2009 by 7×7 magazine, they dubbed her, “Avant-Cellist.” It’s a fitting description, but for my part, I am interested in the way Zoë has used the Web and social media to engage with and stay in touch with her fans.

With more than 1.3 million followers on Twitter (@zoecello), she describes herself there as, “Cello, computers and pancakes. The daily twitterings of a professional avant cellist and amateur nerd.” A wonderfully humble description for an immense and innovative talent.

I am thrilled Zoë was able to join the program. Listen to the archive here:

Stowe Boyd, By Brian Solis

Stowe Boyd, By Brian Solis

This week on The A-List, I am excited to welcome Stowe Boyd, international authority on social tools and futurist.

With the iPad hype this week, it seems like the perfect time to discuss the tools that run on our digital devices – new and old.

In addition to his other accomplishments, Stowe is launching a series of webinars, is the president of the Microsyntax.org non-profit, and director of the related 301Works.org initiative of the Internet Archive and is developing a conference with Jeff Pulver called Social Business Edge.

There’s much to talk about!
